Meet Sabine
I started ceramics and painting at TAFE in Perth (Western Australia) and continued years later in the UK at the Guildford School of Art. Nowadays I draw on experimentation, practice and my experience of understanding design and visual language. I have lived abroad with my family in 6 different countries on 3 different continents, before returning to The Netherlands after 20 years. Originally from Maastricht, I have made my home in The Hague, The Netherlands, where I paint in my studio.
My creative process
I’m an intuitive artist and I love to explore new techniques. The process of painting can be challenging, as it can sometimes take lots of layers and changes before my artwork becomes what I was trying to express in the first place. I love this process, it involves my whole being and it can take me to unexpected places. My paintings communicate colors and scents of my many travels, but also living near the coast inspire my paintings. My work is both experimental and exploratory; each painting is an unmapped journey.
In my work, I use different materials from acrylic paint to oil pastels, sand, even herbs and collage materials. Most of my paintings are colorful, abstract and unique. No ready-made art and no prints, there is only one of each painting!
